About the Nursery. Northwest Shade Trees (NWST) is a wholesale grower of large, specimen-grade shade trees. Founded in 1973 by family members and employees of J. Frank Schmidt & Son Co., we are now formally a division of JFS. Our farm grows about 400 cultivars on 360 acres in Salem, OR.
