Gucci was founded in 1921 by Guccio Gucci (1881–1953) in Florence, Tuscany. Under the direction of Aldo Gucci (son of Guccio), Gucci became a worldwide-known brand, an icon of the Italian dolce vita period. Following family feuds during the 1980s, the Gucci family was entirely ousted from the capital of the company by 1993.
Since its founding in 1921, Gucci has transformed from a single shop opened on a side street in Florence to its position today as a world-renowned symbol of Italian craft, visionary creativity, and innovative design.
Guccio Gucci was born in Florence, Tuscany on 26 March 1881. He was the son of Tuscan parents, Gabriello Gucci, a leather craftsman from San Miniato, and Elena Santini, from Lastra a Signa. As a teenager, in 1899, Guccio Gucci worked at the Savoy Hotel in London.
