Joe Lopez and Jimmy Gonzalez formed Mazz in 1978 before disbanding and creating smaller bands throughout their careers. Gonzalez was known for blending a variety of genres into his basic Tejano sound, a formula he continued to use up until his final release, Porque Todavía te Quiero (2018).
During the '90s, Grupo Mazz became one of the top artists in the Tejano music scene. In 1999 after Joe López decided to leave, Jimmy González y el Grupo Mazz recorded the Tejano Music Awards nominated Quien Iba A Pensar, featuring the hit single "A Pesar De Todo." ~ Drago Bonacich.

Jun 6, 2018 · Jimmy Gonzalez, the Grammy-winning Tejano frontman of Group Mazz, has died. He was 67. The Latin Recording Academy confirmed Wednesday (June 6) that Gonzalez died.
