Liebenstein Castle (German: Burg Liebenstein) is a castle above the village of Kamp-Bornhofen in Rhineland-Palatinate, Germany. Notes and references
Liebenstein Castle (German: Burg Liebenstein) is a castle in Liebenstein in the Ilm-Kreis, Thuringia, Germany. It was originally built in the 12th century by the counts of Käfernburg; the castellans were the counts' ministeriales, the lords of Liebenstein.
Together with the neighbouring castle, Liebenstein is one of the most famous of the Rhine castles, not least because of the legend of the “Feuding Brothers”. Liebenstein Castle, built in the 13th century, and Sterrenberg Castle, which lies directly opposite, bear the name “The enemy brothers”.
Today, only a ruin remains of Liebenstein Castle, the highest castle on the Middle Rhine dating from the 13th century. The high castle, also called Levenstein, is called “the hostile brothers” together with Sterrenberg Castle 200 meters away.
