Brief Overview. Galileo Galilei was born in Pisa, Italy, on February 18, 1564, to a family of aristocratic lineage but average wealth. When he was seventeen, his father, a noted musician who also earned money in the wool trade, sent him to study medicine at the University of Pisa.
Life of Galileo is a tribute to one of history’s most impactful scientific minds, as well as a vindication of his search for scientific truth that might liberate people from their own ignorance. The play begins with Galileo and his housekeeper’s son, Andrea Sarti.
He died on January 8, 1642, a month shy of his seventy-eighth birthday. Galileo was unquestionably one of the greatest minds in history. Any one of his scientific accomplishments would have earned him a place in the first rank of discoverers, and the sheer breadth of his work is almost unparalleled.
Synopsis. Galileo, an eminent professor and scientist in Padua, a city in the 17th century Venetian Republic, is short of money. A prospective student, named Ludovico Marsali, tells him about a novel invention, the telescope ("a queer tube thing"), that is being sold in Amsterdam.
