Coordinates: 53°00′N 7°24′W. County Laois ( / liːʃ / LEESH; Irish: Contae Laoise) is a county in Ireland. It is part of the Eastern and Midland Region and in the province of Leinster. It was known as Queen's County from 1556 to 1922. [3] . The modern county takes its name from Loígis, a medieval kingdom.
County Laois is in the East Coast and Midlands region of Ireland. Historically it was on the western fringe of Leinster, but modern transport puts it within commuting distance of Dublin, only an hour away.
