‘The Day They Gave Babies Away’. Condensed from the original book by Dee Zimmerman, Neillsville, Wisconsin Robert “Robbie” Eunson, former Clark County Sheriff from 1908 to 1910, at the age of 12 was designated the task of finding homes for five younger siblings, after the death of first his father and then his mother.
Dale Eunson is the son of the story's protagonist, Robert Eunson. A year later, the story was published as a book of the same title. A TV version The Day They Gave Babies Away, starring Brandon deWilde, aired on the CBS anthology show Climax! on December 22, 1955. Eunson and his wife Katherine also wrote the screenplay for All Mine to Give.
Dale Eunson, author of “The Day They Gave Babies Away,” was born in Neillsville on Aug. 15, 1904. His mother died when he was 15 months old. At that time Robert Eunson’s household was not organized to care for the baby. Arrangements were made that little Dale should go into the Sturdevant home.
