Saber Rider and the Star Sheriffs is an American-Japanese animated television space Western, similar to the series The Adventures of the Galaxy Rangers and BraveStarr. The series premiered in the United States in 1987 and had a run of 52 episodes.
In the distant future, a team of four high-tech Star Sheriffs defends frontier space colony Yuma from outlaws, as well as Outriders, an army of humanoid alien beings called Vapors, led by mysterious Nemesis, who need Yuma's resources.

While at Calvary Command, they meet the latest Star Sheriff trainees. April encounters a student named Jessie Blue while giving a martial arts demonstration. Jessie develops a crush on April. When the Outriders attack a convoy, Saber, April, Colt, and Fireball race to the rescue.
An evil alien race attacks the New Frontier (a Wild West reference) and is unstoppable until special teams of Star Sheriffs (another Wild West reference) are formed to stop them. They are highly trained soldiers that pilot huge robots that can fire hundreds of lasers/missiles in just seconds.
Saber Rider, April, Colt and Fireball are suspended permanently from duty. Ramrod has been destroyed and the former Star Sheriffs scatter and return to ordinary life. April and Fireball get closer and closer, Saber Rider goes back to his parents and Colt is reunited with Robin.
Armed with their wits, courage, and of course, Ramrod, it's up to Saber Rider and his team to stop the Outriders once and for all and bring peace to the universe! In the distant future, humanity has colonized the stars.
