I tried it on my first batch but by then they were too old to tell. so, I'm doing a little experiment with my next batch.

With older chicks and chickens, identify male birds by their facial comb skin and their jagged, sharp saddle feathers. The trait is sex linked and works only if the chick’s father is of a breed that grows feathers rapidly and its mother is of a breed that grows feathers slowly.

All the commercial white hybrid egg layers that are marketed under the Babcock, Bovans, Dekalb, Hisex, ISA and Shaver brands are sexable by their wing feathers at day-old. Feather sexing can also be applied in several brown or black laying hen breeds, this is depending on the hybrid supplied.
Feather sexing is possible for some chicken breeds. The Rhode Island Red and New Hampshire breeds can be sexed by wing color at hatching. Male chicks have a white spot on the down over the wing web.
