Aug 1, 2021 · Not much to say about St George Island. It's located on the lower Potomac River and is primarily a residential area. Great views of the Potomac River and St Marys River. One thing there worth visiting for other than nature is Ruddy Duck Seafood & Alehouse.

St. George Island. The only engagement to take place in Maryland during the American Revolution occurred on St. George Island in St. Mary’s County, a Southern Maryland island near the Potomac’s confluence with the Chesapeake Bay. St. Mary’s County militia engaged Lord Dunmore’s fleet as they attempted to make landfall on the island.
Visit the outdoor memorial to the freedom seekers at the St. Mary’s College of Maryland athletic fields on land that was once part of the Mackall Plantation, then drive to St. George’s Island to experience the beautiful waterfront that beckons even today’s travelers to find freedom.
