In 1983, he teamed with Rocky Johnson as The Soul Patrol to defeat The Wild Samoans for the WWF World Tag Team Championship, becoming the company's first black champions. After losing the title to Adrian Adonis and Dick Murdoch and missing shows due to drug addiction, Atlas' final match was on May 16, 1984, in Lacey Township, New Jersey.

On Nov. 15, 1983, they made history by defeating two members of Johnson's "family" -- Afa & Sika, the Wild Samoans -- and becoming the first African-Americans to win the World Tag Team Championship.
