West Lafayette is directly across the Wabash River from its sister city, Lafayette. As of the 2020 census, its population was 44,595. [4] . Home to Purdue University, it is a college town and the most densely populated city in Indiana . History. Augustus Wylie laid out a town in 1836 in the Wabash River floodplain south of the present Levee.

- Samara House. By the north end of the Purdue, West Lafayette is home to one of the most complete homes by Frank Lloyd Wright in the United States. One of Wright’s Usonian homes, Samara House was built in the mid-1950s for John and Kay Christian, respectively a pharmaceutical chemistry professor and social director at Purdue.
- Tapawingo Park. Heralding your arrival from Lafayette is this vibrant riverfront park, full of life when Purdue is in session. Translated to “Place of Joy”, Tapawingo Park is connected to the grand John T. Myers Pedestrian Bridge, which deposits you at an impressive plaza and fountain on the West Lafayette side.
