     xmlfox is a good free editor that supports XSD. I however like Oxygen XML Editor. It is very cheap for the functionality it provides.

     EditiX supports visual editing, however it is only free for 30 days. See the below picture.

     Do it in two steps:

     • let some existing tool convert the MediaWiki mark-up into plain HTML;
     • convert the plain HTML into text.

     &prop=redirects returns all redirects to a page, see:

     https://en.wikipedia.org/w/api.php?action=query&titles=PlayStation_4&prop=redirects

     To do it the other way around you should add &redirects to your query:

     https://en.wikipedia.org/w/api.php?action=query&titles=Ps4&redirects

     Found the documentation at the documentation for query module:

     Automatically resolve redirects in query+titles, query+pageids, and query+revids, and in pages returned by query+generator.

     Seems that you are in luck too. From the dump section:

     As of 12 March 2010, the latest complete dump of the English-language Wikipedia can be found at http://download.wikimedia.org/enwiki/20100130/ This is the first complete dump of the English-language Wikipedia to have been created since 2008. Please note that more recent dumps (such as the 20100312 dump) are incomplete.

     So the data is only 9 days old :)

     Considering the size of the dump, you would probably be better served using the word frequency in the English language, or to use the MediaWiki API to poll pages at random (or the most consulted pages). There are frameworks to build bots based on this API (in Ruby, C#, ...) that can help you.

     The category hierarchy information in MediaWiki is stored in the categorylinks

     table, so you're going to need the categorylinks dump.

     You're also going to need the page (not pages-articles) dump for page id to title mapping.
