Comedian and actor Don Rickles was born and raised in Queens, New York. He served in the Navy in World War II, attended the American Academy of Dramatic Arts, and worked in television, before beginning a career in standup comedy. Rickles gained attention for his “insult style” of comedy, which he developed in response to hecklers. In the 1950s Rickles became a favorite of popular entertainers like Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin, which led to regular appearances in Las Vegas and elsewhere. Rickles began acting in films and on television in the late ‘50s and continued to do so through the 2000s, appearing in such films as RUN SILENT, RUN DEEP; THE MONEY JUNGLE; and CASINO. He has released two comedy albums, 1968’s HELLO DUMMY! and 1969’s DON RICKLES SPEAKS; has hosted his own television show and specials; and has appeared hundreds of times on THE TONIGHT SHOW and other talk shows.
