A Smurf house is a standard form of residence for a Smurf that's shaped like a mushroom. It is a two-floor house that typically has one door, a few ground-floor windows and some rooftop windows, and a chimney stack. The ground floor is usually used as the living room while the top floor is used as a bedroom. The roof of the Smurf house is an actual mushroom top that the Smurfs find in the forest.
The actual interior arrangement of a house depends on the occupant's personal use. Handy's house, for example, uses the ground floor for a workshop, while Papa Smurf's uses the ground floor for his laboratory.
In the 1981 TV series, all Smurf houses are inconsistently structured or arranged in some form throughout the series. In a "canonical" sense, this can be excused by the village (or specific houses) constantly getting rebuilt or moved after being destroyed. For some Smurf houses, the top floor is rarely shown if it serves no purpose to the story.
In most episodes, the average Smurf seemingly uses the ground floor as a combination of a living room and bedroom (or it switches between the two) instead of the top. This makes it easier for the others to visit those who are still in bed, as shown in stories like "Now You Smurf 'Em, Now You Don't", "Hefty And The Wheelsmurfer", and "The Dark Ness Monster". This decision also makes it more convenient for them to wake up and exit their homes quickly when danger or excitement arises.
Some Smurfs have two houses around the village in the 2021 TV series. When not in his lab, Papa Smurf has his own house. Clumsy and Dimwitty, who work for the fire brigade, also have two houses; one for sleeping with each other and their own personal house.
Few houses also appear to have a kitchen area, such as Handy's in "One Good Smurf Deserves Another" and Brainy's in "The Gingerbread Smurfs". However, more often than not, the Smurfs don't have a kitchen of any kind in their home except for Greedy and Chef (in their respective shows). This is due to the others usually having no cooking or baking experience or interest in learning the skills.
Much like the comics, an entire Smurf house can be painted any color from orange, pink, red, blue, gray, etc. Smurfette's house stands out from the rest, as the base and roof are painted shades of pink or purple (notably when the show's colors got more saturated in Seasons 6 to 8), but with added unique heart-shaped elements like windows and shutters. It is also surrounded by flowers, as Smurfette maintains her own garden.
In terms of interior decorations, specifics differ from Smurf to Smurf, but three things all houses seem to have in common are framed paintings along the walls, a table, and a closet. In terms of the paintings, they can depict anything, but the most frequent subjects are Papa Smurf and Baby Smurf. Papa Smurf himself, however, has a picture of him and Homnibus in the 2021 TV series.
In the Smurfs' Village app, a Smurf house (referred to as a hut) is the main item for building a village. The game provides several houses in different colors and price in all districts (main, island, mountain, and Planet Swoof). More Smurfs will appear in the game when more houses are placed. Players can upgrade their houses with coins and smurfberries to have more Smurfs in the game.
Players can also place houses for more Swoofs, but only once player complete the collections of constellations.
