     I disagree with the commentators that this question has nothing to do with programming. It can be solved fairly easily with a simple recursive function:

     def n_ways(x, y): if x == 0 or y == 0: # we are on the "edge", there is only one way to get there return 1 else: # the number of ways to get here equals the sum of the number of # ways to get to the point directly below and the number of ways # to get to the point directly left return n_ways(x-1, y) + n_ways(x, y-1)

     Let's try it out. Point B is x position 4, y position 4.

     >>> n_ways(x=4, y=4)70-

     We can also use our algorithm to generate the diagram below:

     As Stéphane Laurent has already mentioned, you can easily find Pascal's Triangle hiding in this algorithm! :)

     I'm assuming the Earth is spherical (with low error).

     Consider the spherical triangle (plane, North Pole, destination) = PND.

     First, convert distance d to the spherical arc between the plane and its destination, with the (Planar) Cosine Rule:

     r_plane = (r_earth + h_plane)r_dest = (r_earth + h_dest)cos(PD) = (r_plane^2 + r_dest^2 - d^2)/(2*r_plane*r_dest)

     Note that

     • 90-PN is the plane's latitude, and
     • the angle at P is the plane's heading (azimuth).

     Now, with the Spherical Cosine Rule:

     cos(ND) = cos(PN)*cos(PD) + sin(PN)*sin(PD)*cos(P)-

     And you can obtain destination's latitude computing 90-ND.

     This time, using the Spherical Sine Rule:

     sin(N) = sin(PD)*sin(P)/sin(ND)-

     Which gives the absolute difference in longitude between the plane and its destination.

     The direction vector from the center of the circle to the point is:

     dx, dy = cos(a), sin(a)-

     This is the same direction as from the normal vector to the point on the circle. So the ray can be set up by:

     x = round(r * dx) + 200y = round(r * dy) + 200rays += [(rayClass.Ray(x, y, 1, [dx, dy]))]

     Note, in this case the direction vector is a Unit vector (the length of a unit vector is 1) and so the components are floating point numbers.

     If the direction has to be integral and its length has to be the radius of the circle:

     rx, ry = round(r * cos(a)), round(r * sin(a))x, y = rx + 200, ry + 200rays += [(rayClass.Ray(x, y, 1, [rx, ry]))]

     Another possibility is to use pygame.math.Vector2

     for vector arithmetic in PyGame.

     A direction vector can be calculated by a --operation and a Unit vector (the length of a unit vector is 1) can be get by .normalize()

     Using select

     would return all values where the block returns true for example:

     Instead use detect

     if you want to return only the first value where the block returns true:
