Cactus Flower is based on a Broadway play of the same name by American humorist Abe Burrows, who based his play on an earlier French play, Fleur de cactus, by Pierre Barillet and Jean-Pierre Gredy. The play was adapted for the movie by Romanian-born screenwriter I.A.L. Diamond.
