Jun 8, 2023 · King Kong is referred to as a Titan in the MonsterVerse, although he may also fit the description of a Kaiju in Japan. Nevertheless, because Kong has always been a Western product and is rarely mixed up with Godzilla and other Kaiju in Japan, we can’t really say that he is a Kaiju.
No one uses the term, but technically speaking giant monster movies are Daikaiju ( "dai" = "big"/"great" ) films. The character of King Kong pre-dates the kaiju genre by just over 20 years, but retroactively fits the general criteria that we would use to classify him as one.
