Remnants of when Skansen was a fortress in the Middle Ages are still visible such as the ramparts overlooking the strait. If you are going to the Polar Museum, take some time to visit Skansen. There is a cafe open in the summer.

Skansen, the open air museum is a great attraction, however best to visit in summer when most of the houses and workshops are open. Even in winter, one can still see the animals, with several types of Nordic animals and wonderful quaint houses.
