I really disagree. By definition, Metroidvanias are any game that imitates a Metroid or Igivania (did I say that right?) game. Metroid Fusion very clearly is based on Super Metroid. Iconoclasts, by comparison, is not a Metroid game in pretty much every way, and seems to take a lot more inspiration from other, unrelated platforming genres.
