What this means for you
This is the flag that is waived to indicate the start of a race. It will be waived with the gate drop to let you know that the race had a successful start. There is no change in behavior required with the green flag as it is informational. Twist the throttle and get the holeshot!

When you see a yellow flag, it will be in advance of the wreck or downed rider. You should slow down and not pass any riders until after the incident. Additionally, you should not take any jumps. The only caveat to this is that during the AMA Amateur Motocross (or Arenacross) National Championship, you must show a good faith effort at caution, but you still can pass and jump. Failure to be cautious can cause disqualification, or loss of position and is at the sole discretion of the referee.

You will mainly see these flags towards the end of a race. They are designed to let riders who are about to be lapped by faster riders that the faster riders are coming up behind them. If you see this flag during a race, maintain your pace and line and don’t try and move out of the way. Let the faster riders pass you but don’t impede their process in any way.

If you see a red flag, it means an all stop on the race due to an emergency on the track. If you see this, make your way back to the starting line in case they race committee decides to have a restart.
