Rapid Urease Test. The urease activity of H. pylori enabled the development of a variety of diagnostic tests, including the rapid urease test (RUT). Urease catalyzes the hydrolysis of urea into ammonia and carbon dioxide. The production of ammonia leads to an increase in the local pH.
