Speed metal is a subgenre of heavy metal music that originated in the late 1970s from new wave of British heavy metal (NWOBHM) roots. [1] It is described by AllMusic as "extremely fast, abrasive, and technically demanding" music. [2] It is usually considered less abrasive and more melodic than thrash metal.

As the late 70's and early 80's arrived, some HM bands started experimenting with speed in individual tracks (refer next sub-topic).
