Jannon's typefaces are based on the style of the previous century, especially the roman. Some differences in the roman are his characteristic 'a' with a curved bowl and the top left serifs of letters such as 'm' and 'p', with a distinctive scooped-out form.
Jean Jannon is considered one of the main representatives of French typography in the first half of the 17th century and the first of the great typographic artists of the European Baroque. Jannon’s typefaces were based on Claude Garamond’s design.

From 1983 to 2001 Apple used ITC Garamond as their corporate font. They actually had Bitstream condense it 80% because the existing ITC Garamond Condensed, at 64%, was considered too narrow. This version of Garamond is known as Apple Garamond. For years Bitstream sold it under the name of ITC Garamond Narrow.

Monotype Garamond's italic replicates the work of punchcutter Jean Jannon quite faithfully, with a variable slant on the capitals and swashes on many lower-case letters. Monotype's 1922–1923 design, based on Jannon's work in the Imprimerie Nationale, is bundled with Microsoft Office.
