Jan 21, 2022 · 1. Punta Cana is best for casinos and resort life. When most people think of the Dominican Republic, it’s Punta Cana they have in mind. It’s the resort capital of the island, with an avalanche of all-inclusives catering to the bottomless-bar set.
- Monte Cristi. The virginal province of Monte Cristi boasts gorgeous natural wonders and a special history; from being the first colonial settlement (La Isabela) to having historic ties with Cuba’s independence thanks to Maximo Gomez and Jose Marti.
- Buen Hombre (Very off-the-beaten-path) Less than an hour from the town of Monte Cristi is the sleepy beach town of Buen Hombre. One of the best places in the world for kite surfing.
- Cayo Arena. A few hours in between Puerto Plata and Monte Cristi town is also the popular crystal clear beach and island called Cayo Arena. Or Paradise Island in English.
