The young Wenceslaus was raised by his grandmother, Ludmila, a devout Christian and influential figure in Bohemia's early conversion to Christianity. Under her guidance, Wenceslaus was educated in the Christian faith, which profoundly shaped his values and leadership style later in life.
Wenceslaus was the son of Vratislaus I, Duke of Bohemia from the Přemyslid dynasty. His grandfather, Bořivoj I of Bohemia, was converted to Christianity by Cyril and Methodius. His mother, Drahomíra, was the daughter of a chief of the Havelli, but was baptized at the time of her marriage.
