Apr 30, 2024 · John Goodmanson, Harvey Danger’s producer, recalled in an interview with Under the Radar that “Flagpole Sitta” was a product of the band’s frustrations and insecurities. Since they weren’t able to express these emotions vocally, the band members decided to write a song about it.
It examines how underground culture can be co-opted and commodified, leaving the observer both aware and horrified. In terms of credits, “Flagpole Sitta” was produced by Harvey Danger and John Goodmanson. The song was written by Sean Nelson, Jeff J. Lin, Aaron Huffman, and Evan Sult.

"Flagpole Sitta" made Billboard magazine's Top 40 and appeared in a number of films and television shows. Its video got heavy rotation on MTV and VH1.
