The new show was confirmed by the BBC in April 2017 and went on to get its premier the following year with an air date of the 18th February 2018. The series is made up of six episodes, which out on BBC 1 during its initial run. It’s also available to watch on BBC iPlayer.

The show is a BBC Studios original production and it’s been written by Charles McKeown, who picked up an Academy Award nomination for writing Brazilwith Terry Gilliam and Tom Stoppard back in the 1980s. Sandy Johnson directed the sitcom with producer Humphrey Barclay and executive producers Chris Sussman and Moira Williams.
While the reviews were a little on the mixed side for Hold the Sunset, it picked up enough viewers to be saved from being axed. The BBC went on to announce that a second series has been filmed with production starting in 2018.
