Really Weird Tales was a short-lived Canadian-American science fiction horror comedy anthology series, written and presented by Joe Flaherty. The series featured an assortment of actors previously known for their work on SCTV, including Flaherty, John Candy, Catherine O'Hara, John Hemphill, and Martin Short .
John Candy appears with lots of his SCTV friends in this 1987 collection of spoof "Twilight Zone" stories. John Candy stars in this tale, entitled "Cursed with Charisma", as Howard Jensen, a mysterious stranger who stirs things up with a "no money down real estate boom".
Hosted by Joe Flaherty, who inserts himself into each segment's universe, it focuses on the strange rather than the creepy, all laced with satirical humor. Featuring SCTV alums, John Candy, Catherine O'Hara, and Martin Short, the film finds the nature of its talents and uses them well, but there's still an inconsistency from one short to the next.
