Barrington is a suburban village in Cook County, Illinois and Lake County, Illinois. The population was 10,327 at the 2010 census. Located approximately 32 miles (51 km) northwest of Chicago, the area features wetlands, forest preserves, parks and horse trails in a country-suburban setting.

The Village of Barrington serves as the hub of activity for the 90-square-mile Barrington area, which consists of 7 independent villages and more than 47,000 residents. The Metra train stops right in the village center, easily connecting Barrington to the City of Chicago.
Having been founded as a small pioneer village in 1865, “the Village,” as it’s fondly known, sits at the center of the 90-square-mile Barrington area and is the commercial, cultural, and community heart of the region with its quaint shops, restaurants, and cultural offerings at Barrington’s White House.

At that time, the Civil War was about to end and the United States was expanding westward into lands occupied by Native Americans.
