Indeed, the DreamWorks Animation release was actually pulled because it was doing “too well,” and was making much more money than China’s homegrown animated efforts, including Happy Little Submarine 3: Rainbow Treasure, Kuiba 2 and The Adventures of Sinbad 2013.
Jun 7, 2013 · A Guangzhou-based cinema chain manager told The Hollywood Reporter that Chinese authorities are forcing theater owns to end the run of DreamWorks' The Croods two weeks earlier than planned.
"The Croods", which was released on April 20 in Chinese mainland, made 392 million yuan (US$63.8 million) at the box office before it was pulled from the theaters on June 6 at midnight. Dreamworks and China Film Group Corp, the film's importer, refused to comment on the issue.
