The dose is usually 7.5 milligrams (mg) per kilogram (kg) of body weight every 12 hours for 10 days.
Clarithromycin comes as a tablet, an extended-release (long-acting) tablet, and a suspension (liquid) to take by mouth. The regular tablet and liquid are usually taken with or without food every 8 (three times a day) to 12 hours (twice a day) for 7 to 14 days.
Clarithromycin is available as granules for oral suspension. After constitution, each 5 mL of clarithromycin for oral suspension, USP contains 125 mg or 250 mg of clarithromycin. Each bottle of clarithromycin granules for oral suspension contains 1250 mg (50 mL size), 2500 mg (50 and 100 mL sizes) or 5000 mg (100 mL size) of clarithromycin.
