  You have to create 2 separate html files. The first HTML (first_page.html) file contains the link for opening the page which contains the download link in a new tab.
  Here is what first_page.html looks like:

  The second HTML page (second_page.html) contains the code to create the counter and display the download link when the counter expires. The important point to note is that I am using $(document).ready() to execute this code when this page loads.
  Here is the second_page.html file:

  You can open a new tab on clicking a link by specifying target="_blank" property in your <a> tag.
  On this page, you can then display the counter before display the download link.

  If that is really the exact code that you ran, then the file is named filename (with no extension) and is in the folder that you were in when you ran the script (probably the same folder the script file itself is stored in). The file will not be called myfile, that's just an identifier in the script.
  Probably what you wanted to do was
  with open('your_data_in_here.csv', 'wb') as myfile:
  
  which would create a file called your_data_in_here.csv in the current working folder.

  I think this is not (yet) supported by brackets-shell -- it appears that CEF-based apps have to specifically implement a "download handler" which brackets-shell hasn't done. This AppJS bug comment says much the same (as that shell is also CEF-based). The suggestion there to use Node for the download would work with brackets-shell too, but you'd run into the same problem with auth cookies as you had with openURLInDefaultBrowser().
  If you were downloading text-only content, it could be done entirely with brackets-shell's appshell.fs file IO APIs, which would fix the cookie situation. But those APIs currently only handle UTF-8 text.
  So I think you'll need to patch brackets-shell to implement the download functionality. The starting point would be to implement a CefDownloadHandler and return it from CefClient::GetDownloadHandler. It looks like CEF takes care of the Save As dialog for you (see show_dialog arg of callback), so you might not need to write much code at all.
