Apr 25, 2024 · The way to win Mah Jongg is to create melds, also known as Pungs, Chows, and Kongs. Each of these melds is a different combination of tiles that you can make. If you play melds during the game, you will earn a certain amount of points for each different type of combination.

- 5 Character’ tile. The Characters suit uses traditional Chinese characters, with the top showing the rank as a Chinese numeral, and the bottom tile showing the 萬 or 万 character, which is read as ‘wan’.
- Chow by using Dots. Chow cannot be made using Honor Tiles. Pung. A Pung functions similarly to the Three-of-a-Kind in Poker, consisting of three of the same tile of the same suit and rank (when applicable).
- Pung by using Suited and Honor Tiles. Kong. A Kong is made up of 4 identical tiles of the same suit and rank. Since a winning hand needs 4 sets and a pair, as a Kong uses 4 tiles, a player making a Kong is required to draw an extra tile from the Wall to make up for the tile deficit.

Contrary to other styles of mahjong, American Mah Jongg uses a card that describes the winning combinations of tiles (called "hands"). The goal of the game is to match your tiles with one of these combinations.
If you have picked the winning Mah Jongg tile yourself or redeemed another players Joker then everyone gives double hand’s point value. If your hand is Jokerless and you take another players discard for Mah Jongg then you get three times the hand’s point value.
