- The Cast. Martin Scorsese pulled out the big guns for Goodfellas, casting two of his favorite actors—Robert De Niro and Joe Pesci—in major roles. The latter is particularly great in the film, playing the terrifying Tommy DeVito with such ferocious energy that he got an Academy Award for Best Supporting Actor.
