The only thing worth seeing here is young Ellen Page, and that's not enough to recommend it. It's basically a stageplay filmed almost entirely in closeup, with the irritating stutter frame whenever anything exciting happens, as if a movie's more exciting when you can't see what's going on.

Two more words: absurd, dubious. My issue with this film is that I think it takes a very unpleasant and distressing subject (grooming, molestation, and murder of young people by predators) and uses it as an excuse to make a story which is pretty much entirely physical and psychological torture porn.
The best way to watch this movie is to be completely unprepared; it's a super indie (sub 1 million dollar budget) Canadian thriller that completely wowed critics and audiences, even as it (and we're being honest here) totally freaked them out.

Hard Candy is an intense psychological drama, with incredible performances by both Ellen Page and Patrick Wilson. The two actors are practically the only two people with lines in the film, aside from some brief appearances by Sandra Oh and Jennifer Holmes.
