    India registered 29,193 murder cases in 2020, according to the NCRB data. This tally was up from 28,915 cases reported in 2019, showing a marginal increase of 1.0 per cent over a year. India's most populous state, Uttar Pradesh, reported the maximum number of murder cases at 3,779. No murder case was registered in Lakshadweep and Ladakh.
