That may mean a marriage gone wrong and/or a romantic rivalry, or its suspicion, among other deeper emotions springing from romance.

India registered 29,193 murder cases in 2020, according to the NCRB data. This tally was up from 28,915 cases reported in 2019, showing a marginal increase of 1.0 per cent over a year. India's most populous state, Uttar Pradesh, reported the maximum number of murder cases at 3,779. No murder case was registered in Lakshadweep and Ladakh.
