The Courtship of Eddie's Father is a 1963 American romantic comedy film directed by Vincente Minnelli, and stars Glenn Ford as Tom Corbett, a widowed father and Ronny Howard as the titular son. The film was taken from a 1961 novel by Mark Toby.
The Courtship of Eddie's Father is based on an autobiographical novel of the same name by Mark Toby. The novel was adapted for the film by American screenwriter John Gay. The popularity of the movie also inspired a TV series, The Courtship of Eddie's Father (1969), that ran from 1969-1972.
The story (which I just found out was autobiographical) is about a man whose wife dies suddenly and his young son is determined that his dad remarry. There was a sitcom on TV at the time (1972) based on this book (1961) and the subsequent movie (1963), but the sitcom was quite different from the book (I've never seen the movie).
