The Netflix version departs from the book in a lot of way for the worse, in my opinion. Watching either of them after reading the book supplements your reading though. That's my two cents... If I'm being honest the netflix show is pretty bad, not a good introduction into Watership Down.
Watership Down (1978) is horrifying. I watched it way wayy too young and when I tell you a movie fucked me up, dear god. The uncanny animation, the voice actors, the visceral violence happening to these little fluffy bunnies. Absolutely horrific. But weirdly enough, I grew to love the novel which I was introduced to from watching the movie.
