A very common thing people do, is to watch the full first season unspoiled, then they read the manga to get the full story. Personally it's rather rare that I pick up the manga after the anime. I only did it 3-4 times IIRC (out of >100 anime).
I keep current on the manga, and save up the anime to watch in chunks. Personally I wouldn’t ditch the anime. It’s worth watching even if you know what happens in the manga.

If I read a manga before an anime adaptation is even announced then I'll most likely watch the anime if it ever gets green-lit. If an anime adaptation is announced for a manga that I haven't read yet and I like the sound of it then I'll definitely just wait for the anime to air and not bother with the manga.
