Weymouth is a city in Norfolk County, Massachusetts, United States. It is one of 13 municipalities in the state to have city forms of government while retaining "town of" in their official names.

Where the Weymouth Fore River flows into Boston Harbor in the north of the city there’s a picturesque stretch of shoreline with sandy beaches and views over the water to Germantown and Rock island Cover. To the west is Wessagusset Beach, and a short walk east is the slightly longer George Lane Beach.

History. A brief survey of Weymouth's past. The Town of Weymouth is the second oldest township in the Commonwealth, dating to 1622 when it was founded as the Wessagusset colony. Renamed Weymouth in 1635, the Town was boosted in that year by the arrival of 100 settlers from its namesake in England.

From the contentious origins of our town, known as Wessagussett in 1622, through its establishment as an agricultural and waterfront community, Weymouth has endured and thrived as community. Weymouth played a part in King Philip’s War in 1675-1676, when the first Weymouth men fought in war.
