Featured Collections. The museum’s collection contains a wide variety of significant items related to the people and industries of Kalamazoo and the Southwest Michigan region, spanning over 200 years of local history.
Our collection of 60,000 artifacts is the basis for much of what you can see and experience at the museum. The Atrium of Artifacts is a large shadow-box wall that can be viewed from all three museum floors. View the exhibit guide displays on each floor to discover the history behind each artifact.
[1] The museum's collection dates to an 1881 gift to the Kalamazoo School Board of corals, shells, and rocks from Horace M. Peck, a local banker. In its early years, the museum acquired natural history specimens, ethnographic materials, and antiquities. Currently, the collection includes over 50,000 items.
