  1. David Darling, the GRAMMY Award-winning cellist and composer who co-founded the pioneering arts organization Music for People, died on Jan. 8 at home in Goshen, Connecticut. He was 79. Darling rose to prominence in the 1970s as cellist of the Paul Winter Consort.
