- The pathogenesis of severe Dengue is complex and poorly understood, but it is thought to involve an exaggerated immune response to the virus, leading to cytokine storms. Excessive release of pro-inflammatory cytokines may contribute to vascular permeability, thereby contributing to the severity of the disease (Patro et al., 2019).
