Sep 13, 2023 · The first two categories of retained EU law – directly applicable EU legislation and domestic law related to former EU obligations – have been renamed as assimilated law from 1 January 2024. The third category of retained EU law, relating to EU law rights and principles, has been repealed in UK law from January 2024.
- The UK’s new relationship with the EU. The UK has left the EU and the transition period has now ended. This means that the UK has now left the EU Single Market and Customs Union and EU law no longer applies in the UK.
- Travelling to the EU. There are new rules for British travellers when travelling to and from the EU for work, holidays or to visit loved ones, Covid-19 restrictions allowing.
- Living, working or moving to the EU. The agreement ensures that you can retain entitlement to certain UK benefits when travelling, working or living in the EU, and vice versa, as long as you continue to meet eligibility requirements.
- Importing and exporting goods. As a consequence of the UK leaving the Single Market and Customs Union, the way businesses in Great Britain trade goods with the EU has changed.
Overview. The Retained EU Law Act will change the way courts can depart from retained EU case law ( clause 7 ). It will also change the way that some types of retained EU law can be modified, such as: ‘downgrading’ retained direct EU legislation so this could be amended by secondary legislation.
