Aug 8, 2003 · Mondays In The Sun. "Mondays in the Sun" chronicles the lives of men who were shipbuilders in Spain until the yards closed, and now measure out their lives in drinking and despair. One still goes to apply for jobs, but is too old, and considers hair dye to make himself look younger.
Santa (Javier Bardem) is an angry man who cannot forgive the ruthless bosses of a shipyard who sold him and his co-workers out for their own profit in Vigo, a city in northern Spain. He has a court case pending for breaking a lamppost. Santa tells his lawyer that he won't pay the fine on principle.
In an industrial city in Spain, five unemployed middle-aged friends daily meet in a bar, whose owner was also a former employee of the local shipyard, for drinking and small talk.
Brief Synopsis. In a northern coastal city of Spain, which turned its back on the countryside long ago and surrounded itself with industries, a group of men make their way through the streets everyday, looking for life's emergency exits.
