The fundamental goal of the Travis Air Force Base (AFB) restoration program is to protect human health and the environment. The Air Force accomplishes this by eliminating or reducing to prescribed, safe levels any potential risks caused by the Air Force's past operat ions.
Known as “The Gateway to the Pacific” for its principal role as a military airlift hub, the base’s host unit, the 60th Air Mobility Wing is the largest in the Air Force’s Air Mobility Command. Today Travis AFB is home to more than 6,600 active-duty military, 2,850 Reservists and 3,770 civilians.
