   Depends on what you want. AoE 4 for Graphics & Combat Mechanics. AoE 3 for the unbelievable amount of content and replayability (people literally have no clue just how vast the amount of content in this game is. Think all the other age of empires combined x 5). AoE 2 for nostalgia and competition.

   • AoE 4 is more geared towards multiplayer currently there just isn't as much Single player content. It is however easier too pick up and play. It has a great tutorial and because every civilization has more differences you have some interesting diversity. The different land mark choices is a great mechanic.

   If you're mainly a single player person, I'd suggest aoe2 because it has 2 decades worth of content - more campaigns, better AI, more game modes etc. If you're into multiplayer, aoe2 is great but I'd suggest aoe4. It offers greater civ variety and more strategic options with each civ.
