The USDA Plant Hardiness Zone Map is the standard by which gardeners and growers can determine which perennial plants are most likely to thrive at a location. The map is based on the average annual extreme minimum winter temperature, displayed as 10-degree F zones and 5-degree F half zones.

May 13, 2024 · Zones are determined based on the average of the coldest temperature each winter over a 30-year period. The 2023 map references temperature data from 1991-2020. The map uses a temperature estimate grid for the contiguous U.S. and Alaska that is 800m in resolution. The resolution for Hawaii is 400m.

The New USDA hardiness zone map was released at the end of 2023. It replaces the old hardiness zone map and includes updated climate data from 1991 to 2020.
