Founded in 1895 as the New York Zoological Society (NYZS), the global conservation organization is now led by Interim President and CEO Robb Menzi as of April 2, 2024. WCS manages four New York City wildlife parks in addition to the Bronx Zoo: the Central Park Zoo, New York Aquarium, Prospect Park Zoo and Queens Zoo.

Founded in 1937, The Wildlife Society is an international network of over 11,000 leaders in wildlife science, management and conservation who are dedicated to excellence in wildlife stewardship. Wildlife conservation emerged as a social and political movement in the United States and Canada during the 19th Century.

The Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) dates back to 1895 when it was known as the New York Zoological Society. One of its founders was Madison Grant, author of The Passing of the Great Race (1918), which argued for the reservation of America as a ‘civilization preserve’ for the Nordic race.
